Privacy Policy

Overview

CodeConverter.net provides free, browser-based developer tools. We take your privacy seriously. The core design principle of this site is that all tool processing is done entirely in your browser — your source code, data, and input never leave your machine and are never sent to any server.

This Privacy Policy explains what limited information we do collect (primarily standard web server logs and anonymous analytics), how we use it, and your rights regarding that data. If you have any questions, please contact us at info@codeconverter.net.

What we collect

1. Anonymous analytics
We use a self-hosted analytics solution (Matomo, hosted on our own servers) to count page views and understand how the site is used. Matomo is configured with disableCookies, meaning it does not set any tracking cookies. The data collected includes: page URL, referrer URL, approximate country (derived from IP address, which is then anonymised), browser type and version, and device type (desktop/mobile).

No personally identifiable information is stored in analytics. IP addresses are anonymised immediately and are not persisted. No data is shared with third-party analytics providers.

2. Web server logs
Like all web servers, ours automatically records standard access logs when you visit a page. These logs contain the requested URL, timestamp, HTTP status code, referrer header, user agent string, and the anonymised IP address. Logs are retained for up to 30 days for security and operational purposes and then deleted.

3. Local Storage (theme preference)
We store your theme preference (light, dark, or auto) in localStorage in your browser so the site remembers your choice between visits. This data stays on your device and is never transmitted to us.

4. Tool input
We do not collect, transmit, or store any data you paste or upload into our tools. All processing (minification, conversion, formatting, generation) happens client-side in JavaScript running in your browser tab.

Cookies

CodeConverter.net does not set any cookies. Our analytics tool (Matomo) is specifically configured to operate without cookies (disableCookies mode). The theme preference described above is stored in localStorage, not in a cookie.

We do not use advertising cookies, third-party tracking cookies, or social media cookies.

Third-party services

We load web fonts (Outfit and DM Mono) from our own server — no requests are made to Google Fonts or any external font CDN. No third-party scripts (advertising networks, social widgets, external analytics) are embedded on this site.

Our Matomo analytics instance is hosted on view.codeconverter.net, which is a subdomain operated by us. Data from analytics is not shared with or sold to any third party.

Data retention

Anonymous analytics data is retained for 12 months, after which it is automatically deleted from our Matomo instance. Web server logs are retained for a maximum of 30 days. Theme preferences stored in your browser's localStorage can be deleted at any time by clearing your browser's site data for codeconverter.net.

Your rights (GDPR)

If you are located in the European Economic Area (EEA), you have the following rights regarding the limited personal data we process:

• Right of access — You may request a copy of personal data we hold about you.
• Right to rectification — You may request that inaccurate data be corrected.
• Right to erasure — You may request deletion of your personal data.
• Right to object — You may object to the processing of your data for analytics purposes.
• Right to opt out of analytics — You can opt out of Matomo tracking by enabling a Do Not Track header in your browser, or by clicking the opt-out option below.

Analytics opt-out

Because our analytics does not use cookies, the standard cookie opt-out does not apply. However, Matomo respects the browser's Do Not Track setting. If DNT is enabled in your browser, Matomo will not track your visit.

You can also opt out directly by clicking the link below. An opt-out cookie will be set in your browser that tells Matomo to ignore your visits.

Data controller

You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority. In Germany, the competent authority is the Federal Commissioner for Data Protection and Freedom of Information (BfDI).

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. Any changes will be published on this page with an updated date at the top. For significant changes, we will update the date prominently. We encourage you to review this page periodically.
